Beware the Broligarchy and never ending corruption
This is a topic that we'll be posting a lot about over the coming years. It just sickens me to see who Trump is nominating for key posts within his administration. The inevitable corruption and money grab by the American broligarchy is going to be breathtaking.
Case in point…..last week Reuters reported that the Trump transition team is getting on board with Elmo's opposition to car-crash reporting and other requirements for cars with advanced driver-assistance or autonomous-driving technologies. That's what a cool quarter billion will get you these days. I guess Elmo doesn't want regulators or the consumer public to have data that would fully inform their purchase decisions. According to the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration, Tesla reported most of the more than 1,500 crashes and accounted for 40 of 45 fatalities.
Now, it is true that Tesla shows up the most because they have the most cars with advanced driver-assistance features, but this technology is still being perfected and consumers have a goddamn right to know how safe or risky this technology is BEFORE they make their purchase decisions.

Muslims who voted for Trump upset by his pro-Israel cabinet picks.
Saw a fascinating headline on Bluesky that gave me a righteous "Good going, Asshole" chuckle. It seems as though Muslims who voted for Trump are upset by his very pro-Israel cabinet picks. Clearly their protest vote against the Biden administration didn't have quite the impact they had hoped.
What they should have known: Trump is not their friend. During the campaign and after meeting with Netanyahu at Mar a Lago in July 2024, Trump said that Israel must “finish what they started,” “get it over with fast,” and that the US must “let Israel finish the job.” (https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/politics/trump-netanyahu-meeting-mar-a-lago/index.htm) I can't help but read between those very Trumpian lines and assume the worst for the Palestinian people.
Trump also pledged that, if elected, he would reimpose his ban on travel from some Muslim-majority countries and revoke student visas of participants in pro-Palestinian protests. $2 trillion?? At whose expense? And for whose benefit? Probably not the Palestinian people.
In the last year of his first term as President, Trump unveiled a 2 state solution that strongly favored Israel. Specifically, Israel would control a unified Jerusalem and not require it to uproot any of the settlements in the West Bank that provoked Palestinian outrage. The Impact: According to Reuters, Rexhinaldo Nazarko, executive director of the American Muslim Engagement and Empowerment Network (AMEEN), said Muslim voters had hoped Trump would choose Cabinet officials who work toward peace, and there was no sign of that. "We are very disappointed," he said. "It seems like this administration has been packed entirely with neoconservatives and extremely pro-Israel, pro-war people, which is a failure on the on the side of President Trump, to the pro-peace and anti-war movement."

In this article written by the AP, Trump pledged to impose wide-ranging restrictions and roll back civil rights protections for trans students by excluding them from Title IX protections.
Republicans spent more than $215M on network ads that aired more than 290,000 times attacking trans or LGBTQ issues and painting the community as a threat to society.
Most Republican-controlled states already have banned gender-affirming health care for transgender youth under age 18 or 19, and several have adopted policies limiting which school bathrooms trans people can use.
So much for individual liberties…

LGBTQ kids are reporting increased bullying and harassment by classmates.
The LGBTQ Community as a whole feels even more unsafe in today's America.

How not to be an asshole:
Just don't be an asshole - you don't have to understand the origins or the hows and whys of another person's gender identity. Just be a decent human and respect how others wish to be in this harsh world. If others aren't conforming to how you view societal roles and it isn't impacting you in any way, leave people alone and mind your own damn business. You do believe in individual liberty, don't you?? And if you can be open and listen, engage a transgender individual or parent of a transgender kid in a conversation to learn about their lived experience. You just might have your heart cracked open a little bit and feel some goddamn empathy.
Educate yourself - use the google machine to find resources that explain gender dysphoria and what gender-affirming care actually is. I can assure you that the process between becoming aware of a different gender identity and receiving gender reassignment surgery is LENGTHY and not all of our trans friends choose surgery. There are many approaches to gender-affirming care that an individual can pursue.

Why am I doing this?

A few days before the election, I point blank asked a friend of 20+ years who she was voting for. She confirmed my suspicions when she told me she was voting for Trump - again. I told her that I could no longer be friends with someone whose values I found so abhorrent and to have a nice life. I then fantasized about sending her weekly postcards with the awful things that will inevitably happen with the consistent sign off of "Good going, asshole." They would be addressed to all the clever synonyms I could think of….the Cockwombles, the Dufuses, the Dipshits, the Twits, the Twats at….123 Main St., Everytown, USA. Then I thought that might result in a restraining order and maybe I should reconsider. My mind was left to wander and wonder whether the URL www.goodgoingasshole.com was available. It was. And $16 later, it was mine.
I realize typing this that this sounds petty AF. And it is. But I can't just sit idly by and not point out the awful, horrible, unjust consequences of their choice to vote for Trump despite all the things he has told us he will do. A lot of innocent people are going to be badly hurt and even killed by the Mango Mussolini's policies. Including people who voted for him despite having direct knowledge of or at least easy access to plenty of information that makes this shit so predictable. It is inevitable that lots of straight, white Christian Trump voters will piss and moan once they begin to feel the impacts on their families, their pocketbooks, their lives. I'm human..and petty..and happy for smug people to personally experience the Find Out portion of FAFO.
It would be very easy to just ramble into the void with no real impact. While moderately satisfying, I think I would find even greater satisfaction by adding a few, simple calls to action that anyone can do to resist, defy, protest, respond in a positive way. So, here's how this will work. I will address specific topics as they come up in the following format:

Things the rest of us can do
All the information will be gleaned from public reporting with links to various news sources. There will be no posts based on hyperbolic predictions - just real and tangible stuff.
Racism unleashed
11/8/2024: We know Donald Trump's history of vile racist rhetoric and how his words give his devotees a permission structure to follow in those disgusting footsteps. Let's not kid ourselves - they have been and will continue to be more bold, more open in their abhorrent behavior.
Just yesterday, Black Americans, including children, began receiving anonymous text messages with references to "slave catchers", "plantations", and "picking cotton". Donald Trump's campaign denies any direct involvement in the text messages and while that may be true, we also know that his re-election makes his racist followers more comfortable in openly expressing their gross, racist views.
